A random child emerged from the crowd at The Surf Lodge in Montauk to dance with Sofi Tukker on the 4th of July. I have so many questions about how this happened and I am not so sure we will ever get a single answer.
It was an awesome moment that the young girl will never forget!
If you are not from the northeast or a fan of electronic dance music, you probably have no idea what is going on right now. Let me first start by explaining Montauk, which is located on the easternmost point of Long Island in New York. The village is considered one of the most popular and expensive beach destinations in the United States — especially during the summer — as part of the greater “Hamptons” area.
Wealthy New Englanders travel on I-27 past Bridgehampton and East Hampton, through Napeague, until the hamlet of Montauk pops up out of seemingly nowhere. You literally cannot go any further east.
If you are from the south, my best comparison for Montauk would be Alys Beach. If you are from out west, my best comparison would be Newport Beach. Those aren’t exact but it gives you a general idea!
As soon as the clock hits about four o’clock on Friday, a large portion of Connecticut and New York hits the road to live lavishly in Montauk for the weekend. Especially the mid-to-late 20s and early 30s finance bros. They return home on Sunday night. The entire beach town is super boujee.
Right on the edge of Fort Pond sits The Surf Lodge. The most popular bar in the area is very “seen and be seen” and very expensive but it is still a vibe.

Now that you have an understanding of the environment, lets turn our focus to the 4th of July.
The Surf Lodge hosts live music almost every weekend in the summer. It always builds out a star-studded lineup for the 4th that begins on Wednesday night. Sofi Tukker was the biggest name this year. They performed on Thursday.
At some point during their set, a young girl randomly emerged from the crowd to join them on stage.
She was lit!
As cool as it is to see the young kid live her best life (my FOMO is very real), I have to wonder why she was there in the first place. I was pretty sure The Surf Lodge bar is 18+ but apparently not.
On one hand, I have the utmost respect for this move. Somebody decided to bring their 10-year-old (?) to see Sofi Tukker perform on Montauk. They were not going to let their kid ruin the weekend. She wasn’t going to keep them home. The party must go on!
On the other hand, I question the decision to bring an elementary school student to The Surf Lodge on the 4th of July as someone who has seen first-hand just how rowdy it can be. I probably wouldn’t’ve made the same choice but, then again, it all worked out okay so who am I to judge. Stay lit!
