Lane Kiffin is enjoying his offseason at the expense of an SEC rival. He took an unprompted swipe at Hugh Freeze over his program’s recent recruiting struggles.

Auburn currently boasts the worst class in the league. Kiffin’s taken a victory lap as Freeze continues to lose out on top-rated talent.

The Ole Miss head coach hasn’t been shy about making his feelings on Freeze known. In a somewhat one-sided rivalry, he’s taken numerous jabs at his counterpart since Freeze’s arrival on The Plains.

Those include shots at his checkered past in Oxford, his shady hiring tactics, and his rumored social media ban upon being hired by the Tigers.

Hugh Freeze often stays out of the spat, though he’s been known to throw a backhanded compliment Kiffin’s way regarding his success at Ole Miss. The rivalry resumed this summer.

Lane Kiffin mocked Auburn’s awful recruiting.

Freeze, of course, led the Rebels to great success before a tumultuous exit in 2017. He resigned amid investigation soon after landing a Top 5 recruiting class.

Infractions were discovered, briefly handcuffing Ole Miss’s ability to secure top talent. Lane Kiffin has been able to turn things around. A probationary period has ended. Recruiting sanctions are through. The Rebels are on the rise and able to finally put Freeze’s mess behind them.

Despite that controversial history in the SEC, Auburn opted to give Hugh Freeze a second chance in the league. The Tigers hired the head coach in 2022. A promise to recreate recruiting success seen at Ole Miss was a big reason why.

His first few classes were promising. Auburn boasts back-to-back Top 10 cycles nationally. When he lands a big fish, he signals his “catch” with a fishing post on social media.

Those posts have been few and far between this offseason. There’s been a major regression looking ahead to 2026.

The Tigers’ group for the upcoming year is dead last in the SEC. They have a conference-worst seven commitments with an average star rating that ranks 11th in the league.

It’s led to criticism from the fanbase, with some pointing to his golf hobby as being a distraction. Freeze says shady NIL practices are the true reason behind the failures. Whatever the case, Lane Kiffin is taking the misfortunes as an opportunity to troll.

He dug the knife further after stealing a 2026 commitment from the Tigers grasps. Four-star tight end JC Anderson recently chose Ole Miss over Auburn after taking official visits to both campuses. Kiffin made sure Freeze knew about the head-to-head win.

Lane Kiffin does not care for Hugh Freeze. He’s made that known on social media. Auburn’s awful recruiting has given him ammunition for his latest online attack. There doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
