With food delivery booming across the U.S., it’s no longer just college kids or folks between jobs doing it. People with full-time careers, retirees, and even luxury car owners are hitting the road to earn side income. Still, one TikTok user recently caught something you don’t see every day: a Domino’s delivery worker pulling up in a Maserati.
Idaho-based TikToker Angela Pek (@angela_pek) spotted the delivery and posted the moment online, racking up more than 132,800 views.
“I’m not judging,” she says with the camera pointed at the car. “But if you’re driving a Maserati delivering Domino’s pizza, have you made financial decisions poorly?”
“I don’t know,” she concludes with a questioning tone.
As it turns out, it’s not that far-fetched for a pizza delivery driver to be in a car like this. The car in the video appears to be a Maserati Ghibli, which you can get used for less than $15,000 if it’s a 2014 model. Newer used ones, like the 2021 version, hover around $35,000.
As for Domino’s drivers, the national average pay is about $17.40 an hour—not counting tips. With generous tipping or a packed delivery schedule, some drivers report making up to $60,000 a year.
Even if someone financed the Ghibli, a monthly payment on the cheaper model would come out to roughly $124. For the pricier one? Around $473.
Not exactly the smartest car to get if you’re being budget-conscious, but also not far-fetched in the slightest.
Many viewers thought Pek was being judgmental for no reason, arguing the situation wasn’t that unusual.
One person said, “A used one is cheaper than a Camry.”
Another shared their own experience. “I was doordashing in a baby Benz, to see my account hit 20k,” they wrote. “Because I was impatient & didn’t want to budget. We should mind our business more often. Because more than 80% of Americans don’t have that in their account.”
Others pointed out that the driver could be covering for someone or a person who recently lost a job and is doing what they need to stay afloat.
“He could also be the owner of a franchise, whose employees either called out or something else happened,” one comment read.
“That. Or they just lost their job and have to have some sort of income coming in no matter what to keep them floating,” another added.
