‘I Saw A Little Hand’: California Woman Puts Papa John’s Pizza Box On Her Countertop. Then It Starts Moving

Remember If You Give a Mouse a Cookie? What about If You Give a Mouse a Pizza From Papa John’s?

There comes a time in every girl’s life when they have to deal with a pest issue on their own, and not all are up for the challenge.

When this woman realized a mouse was potentially in her freshly delivered pizza from Papa John’s, she panicked.

Here’s how she eventually got the pest out and what you can do to keep your home mouse-free.

Mouse Begone

In a viral video with more than 670,000 views, content creator Sophia Umansky (@sophiakylieee)—the daughter of TV personalities Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky—shared the alarming thing she found moving on her kitchen counter.

“I’m having a f—— heart attack. I just heard a sound coming from this pizza box. and I swear I looked over and I saw a little hand,” Umansky says.

In the video, there’s a singular closed Papa John’s pizza box on the kitchen counter.

“I think there’s a mouse in it,” Umansky says, panicking. “I’m freaking the f— out.”

She calls her mom for help. However, Richards, who stars in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is equally as freaked out. So instead, a young man (not quite sure who he is since Umansky only has sisters) came in to help.

He calmly grabs the box with both hands and takes it outside. When he partially opens the box, there is, in fact, a mouse in the corner.

“I feel bad for it,” Umansky says.

He walks over to a tree and fully opens the box. And the mouse goes running out into the wild.

How Did The Mouse Get In The Pizza Box?

It’s likely that the pizza was recently delivered and left on the front porch. In the time between delivery and grabbing the box, the mouse could have snuck in. There is a small hole at the front of the box that makes it easier to open the box and for excess steam to come out.

How To Get Rid Of Mice

If you have a mouse in the house, it may be hard—but not impossible—to drive out. (And where there’s one mouse, there are likely multiple you haven’t even seen yet.) Home remedies (like peppermint oil and leaving the lights on) are unlikely to be a permanent fix.

Here’s what you should do instead, according to Good Housekeeping

  1. Figure out where their entry points are. They could be coming in through holes behind cabinets or even the crack under your front door.
  2. Set humane mouse traps. These include the popular snap traps that kill quickly and electric traps. Adult mice can easily learn and avoid sticky straps. And rodenticide has the potential for accidental poisoning, especially of children.
  3. Don’t leave food lying around. “Mice are very curious and very food-motivated,” Dion Lerman, the Environmental Health Programs Specialist for the Pennsylvania Integrated Pest Management Program, told Good Housekeeping. Not only should you store food away, but you also need to ensure your trash has a nice tight lid to prevent rodent-attracting smells.

Commenters React

“Why was your mom your first call for this problem like even I know better,” a top comment read.

“‘A mouse hand’ – otherwise known as a paw. This whole thing cracked me up,” a person said.

“The screaming as the mouse jumps out the box,” another wrote.
