In what can only be described as a great tragedy, a tractor-trailer carrying thousands of pounds of mozzarella cheese crashed in Central Pennsylvania this week, littering the highway with delicious shredded cheese.
Debris from the crash blocked all lanes of traffic for several hours while cleanup crews worked to clear the area.
“Company 6 was dispatched at 05:03 AM to reports of a tractor-trailer crash at the 145.6 East of Interstate 80 in the area of the rest area,” the local fire department reported. ” PSP confirmed 3 tractor trailers were involved, with a 200-yard debris field with a lot of cleanup needed, and the entire east-bound lanes were blocked. PSP notified Clearfield County to have the Interstate shut down at the 133 exit to relieve the backlog of traffic and stop traffic flow and traffic control would be needed.”
“Chief 6 arrived and confirmed the report, and had PennDot notified for traffic control. Chief 6 stated that one truck was hauling boxes of shredded mozzarella cheese, and the other was hauling sanitation wipes and there were no injuries and no need for hazmat. The trailer hauling the cheese was split wide open with debris all over the roadway.”
