Belgian cyclist Jasper Philipsen officially abandoned the Tour de France just two days after he did his best impression of the Indonesian boat kid to celebrate a victory on Stage 1. His aura-farming at the finish line will be the lasting memory of his 2025 campaign.
It came to a harsh end on Stage 3.
Philipsen, a sprinter, is one of the best athletes in the sport of cycling. He previously won nine stages at the Tour de France prior to this year and three at the Vuelta a España. He won his 10th stage of the most historic and famous bike race in the world at the first day of competition on Saturday.
As soon as Philipsen crossed the line to win Stage 1, the 27-year-old began to aura farm.

At its core, the term “aura-farming” can best be described as an attempt to look cool through a deliberate over-exaggeration. That often includes a stage photo-op or some kind of viral trend on social media.
In the case of Jasper Philipsen, it is the latter. He did his best impression of the Indonesian boat racing kid to celebrate the opening win at the Tour de France. It was equally as suave as it was hilarious.
If you are not familiar with Pacu Jalur, let this be your introduction. You can find a full breakdown of the Indonesian boat racing kid and his viral TikTok dance HERE. Philipsen is the latest athlete to aura farm on the biggest stage. The celebratory dance was right on trend.
Unfortunately, the Belgian rider will not get another chance at victory this race. A nasty crash involving Bryan Coquard forced him to retire early from the competition. He was bloodied. His bike was bent.
A preliminary diagnosis for the young cyclist includes a fracture to the collarbone and at least one broken rib. Surgery is required.
The good news is that Philipsen is expected to make a full recovery after some time off. The other good news is that he did not squander his opportunity to aura farm the Tour de France.
However, the bad news is that Jasper Philipsen will not get another opportunity to aura farm this year. Nor will he get the opportunity to win (which is probably way more important). His race is over.
