Either Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers are actually dating or they are successfully pulling off the most elaborate troll in women’s basketball history. The evidence of their relationship no longer leaves room for speculation, but neither woman has issued a verbal confirmation to this point.

Bueckers, already one of the best players in WNBA history as a rookie, played her college basketball career at UConn. She arrived to Storrs in 2020. Fudd arrived in 2021.

Bueckers personally recruited Fudd to play for the Huskies. They were practically inseparable during their four seasons together, both on and off the court, which led to widespread speculation about a potential romance between them. However, they both shot down the rumors at various points in time. Their relationship was built on an enduring sisterhood. It did not go any further.

Fast forward to the end of June. Azzi Fudd confirmed her relationship with her former teammate with a post on Instagram. Her phone case read: “Paige Bueckers’ girlfriend.” If that is not a dead giveaway, then I don’t know what is. And yet, people were not fully convinced it wasn’t part of the joke!

Fortunately, we have even more confirmation. Fudd was in Phoenix on Monday night to watch the Wings lose to the Mercury. She and Bueckers held hands after the game.

Maybe she didn’t realize what she was signing but Bueckers did not even bat an eye. The soon-to-be WNBA Rookie of the Year wasn’t fazed by a sign that confirms what we already assumed.

Even though the cat is out of the bag, Paige Bueckers still cannot be serious. She tried to keep the mystery alive by referring to Azzi Fudd as her “former teammate” on Tuesday.

Is this real? Is this all a big joke at our expense? We technically do not know. Neither Fudd nor Bueckers confirmed their relationship on the record through verbal means. But we know… #Pazzi is very real!
