Golf may have a reputation as a gentleman’s game, but there’s also plenty of potential for tempers to flare on the course. Some people won’t think twice about getting into a fight to settle a dispute, but one man in Canada ended up regretting his decision to go that route after squaring off with a former NHL player.

For the most part, golf is an individual sport that’s absent of the direct interpersonal conflict that comes with more physical pastimes where you’re literally facing off against an opponent. As a result, it’s not particularly conducive to the kind of dust-ups that can stem from tensions boiling over in a pick-up basketball or beer league hockey showdown.

In the vast majority of cases, golfers who lose their cool direct their anger at themselves while occasionally taking their frustrations out on the clubs that serve as a convenient scapegoat in situations where they failed to live up to their own expectations.

With that said, there’s always potential for bad blood to start brewing on the course, including situations where someone takes exception to being hit into or gets fed up with slow play over the course of a round.

It appears that second issue was the source of a pretty wild scene that recently unfolded on a golf course somewhere in Canada, as a viral video captured one group taking exception with another that had been taking their sweet time on the tee box before one of the offending lollygaggers decided to escalate the situation.

It did not end well for him, as he was nearly chucked into a nearby pond by a guy who had clearly played hockey at some point based on how he grabbed the front of the man’s shirt before delivering a series of blows he punctuated with a resounding “BANG!” en route to forcing his human punching bag to finally wave the white flag.

It turns out the guy in question not only played hockey but did so at the sport’s highest level, as some people in the know identified him as Nick Tarnasky, a retired center who played 245 games in the NHL during the five seasons he spent between the Lightning, Predators, and Panthers.

Canadians may be known for their politeness, but this isn’t the first time a similarly wild scene has broken out on a course there this year; in April, police launched an investigation into a wild melee that made the rounds online that left one of the men involved with a broken jaw.
