There was a significant piece of roster news on Thursday night that had nothing to do with the quarterback position. John Bullock, a linebacker who played in all 12 games last season for the Huskers, announced his return for the 2024 season.
Bullock is a former walk-on linebacker. But he was effective last season notching 50 tackles total, including 27 solo stops. He also was credited with 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two passes defended.
Nebraska will be without Nick Henrich and Luke Reimer next season. Henrich has announced his football career is over after a knee injury. Reimer is out of eligibility. That made linebacker a key need for the Huskers.
Nebraska football might look for a transfer portal linebacker still. But the return of Bullock is important for depth purposes and at least gives the Huskers a starting-quality player along with Javin Wright for two inside linebacker spots.
It was bad enough that Kyle McCord spurned Nebraska football, but what made it even worse is that it means Julian Fleming is going to Penn State. That On3 prediciton machine is projecting that now.
Of course, it projected McCord to Nebraska so you never know. It made sense though when coupled with the pivot of Nebraska to Demond Demas.
There was talk of him taking an official visit this weekend. He even put “Husker pass catcher” into his bio on Instagram. However, according to Sean Callahan of Husker Online, the visit will not take place.
It sounds like there are some transcript issues. But Callahan did reveal that Demas was communicating with Dylan Raiola since he was expected to visit on the same weekend, so take that for what it’s worth.
Demas won’t be part of the 2024 class though and Nebraska will still need to look for options at wide receiver in the transfer portal, at least in my opinion.
