Most airports in Mexico have been seeing declining passenger numbers so far in 2025, for a variety of reasons.
But there is a bright spot: Merida, the increasingly popular destination at the northern tip of the Yucatan peninsula.
Merida’s passenger traffic was up to 1.86 million through June, a 4.1 percent jump over the same period in 2014. That’s compared to airports like Cancun, which saw a 4.7 percent decline, and Cozumel, where traffic is down by 15.4 percent.
The numbers included a strong June that saw 311,644 passengers handled at the airport.
