“I have been in Hollywood at every size. I have been a sample size, I have had my body change because of life, illness, aging, menopause. And it is merciless wherever you are,” Lena said during the interview.
The actress and writer shared that throughout her career, she’s become more accepting of herself but she doesn’t feel like society has changed its views on body positivity.
“I think we had this moment: Body positivity was here, and then it was gone,” Lena shared and went on to say that she supports people who choose to take trendy weight loss medications if it helps them feel more comfortable in their body. “But we cannot pretend that the bodies people want aren’t influenced, and we can’t claim it’s always for health reasons and not for aesthetic reasons.”
While Lena says she feels like body shaming is “pretty inevitable” in Hollywood, she wants to protect the people she works with from that experience.
“If anybody has anything to say about any of my actors— I keep my mouth shut on most things these days but try a b—-,” Lena told the publication. “I’m not playing around here. It’s the only time that I’m going to be taking my hoops out, ready to fight.”
If you didn’t know, Lena recently opened up about why she took a break from the spotlight after Girls.
