‘Ain’t No Way’: Texas Woman Gets Waterslide To ‘Save Money.’ Then She Sees The $600 Water Bill

Summer is officially here, and with it comes heatwaves that are hitting hard. Record temperatures have already crept past 100 degrees Fahrenheit in places like Springfield, Ohio, and parts of New Hampshire.

That kind of heat sends most kids straight to the pool or water park. But going every day adds up. So, one mom figured she’d save a bit by bringing the fun to her backyard instead.

It didn’t quite go as planned.

Waterslide Installed, $600 Water Bill Arrives

In a recent TikTok video, Texas-based creator Kay (@_mamatoone) shared what happened after she bought an inflatable waterslide to keep her kids cool all summer. Her video has already racked up over 530,000 views.

In the clip, Kay stands in front of the slide with the text on screen reading, “When you thought you were saving money by purchasing a waterslide but then get the water bill.”

Then, she reveals the damage: $603.64.

“Ain’t no way,” she wrote in the caption.

Could Something Else Be Behind That Sky-High Number?

For context, the average water bill in the U.S. hovers around $73 a month. So $600 is—well, a bit much.

Hidden leaks are one of the most common culprits of massive water bills. A constantly running toilet, a dripping outdoor spigot, a loose hose bib, or even an irrigation system glitch can quietly rack up usage without anyone noticing.

Another potential suspect could be a faulty water softener stuck in its regeneration cycle.

So how do you know if you’ve got a leak? Experts recommend turning off every faucet, appliance, and fixture in your home before checking your water meter.

If the meter is still running, something’s off. Most modern meters also have a leak detection indicator (usually a small triangle or gear) that spins when water’s moving through the system.

If that’s spinning when everything’s shut off, it’s time to call in a plumber.

Commenters Think The Waterslide Wasn’t To Blame

In the comments, most users thought there had to be another explanation.

“600? Girl you got a leak or some in the pipes,” one person wrote. “Go to your water utility office and say ‘I’m here to do a water adjustment’… they’ll reduce the price then.”

“Babe get your pipes inspected,” another advised. “That looks like you have a leak. We’ve never had a bill that big.”

Others who used similar backyard setups said they’d never hit numbers like that, even with regular use.

“Okay WHAT!!! We had ours up every other day last summer and NEVER got a bill that crazy,” one person said. “Max like $300.”

Another added, “lol I fill my pool—29,000 gallons—and only paid 75 bucks.”

And someone else had a practical fix for the future. “Get a pump to recycle the water,” they wrote. “You will thank me in 3 months.”
